Luke 9:18-27
“The Miracle of Messiah”
Introduction
After all the other miracles, we realize that the real miracle is Jesus Himself, and the miracle He does in us.
18 And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
19 So they answered and said, “John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”
20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”
21 And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one,
22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”
23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
24 “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.
25 “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?
26 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.
27 “But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.”

II. The Miracle of “those who would come after Him”
23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
24 “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

24 “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.
25 “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?
The miracle of Agape, that we should have the heart and mind of Christ, being willing to lay down our lives to demonstrate His love, kingdom and salvation.
Those who fail to follow Jesus, the ways of Agape, will be destroyed or lost in the end, even though they may gain great power and wealth in this age.
C. Loyalty to the Kingdom v26
26 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.
This implies there is worldly pressure to reject and disavow the Messiah and His Kingdom. This must not happen. Other worldly systems may seem to be winning out at certain times in this age, but they will all fall, and He alone will stand. Then we will be glad we were faithful to Jesus.
Revelation 11
15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”
16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God,
17 saying: “We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.
