That He Would Come

Who Jesus is

Hebrews 1: 1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

1. He came

Hebrews 1:5 For to which of the angels did He ever say:

“ You are My Son,

Today I have begotten You”?

And again:

“ I will be to Him a Father,

And He shall be to Me a Son”?

6 But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says:

“ Let all the angels of God worship Him.”

2. He became one of us

Hebrews 2:9But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels

14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same

3. He went though our experiences

2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same,

2: 17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

4: 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

4. He went through our worst experience - guilt and shame for sin

2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

2:10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

5. He came out victorious, and opened the way for us

4:14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
